Why did you decide to join Usercentrics?
I decided to join Usercentrics because I felt great chemistry between the values of the company, the vision of the products they want to deliver, and the technical and human quality that I saw from the first moment. I was fascinated with the potential of the product and the great technical challenge that it entails. The more I got to know the product and my future colleagues, the more I knew that I wanted to join the team.
Not only I do not regret it, but I reaffirm myself and guarantee the great vision and quality that this great little family has.
What are your main responsibilities?
My responsibilities at Usercentrics are mainly the development, architecture design, and distribution of an SDK for mobile platforms. Also, I have been able to share and test all my knowledge about development methodologies, clean code, automation, and testing, to help create the good habits that I believe a development team should have.
How can a small startup with a small development team develop a product with high quality, fidelity, and scalability without die trying? The answer is simple, with great technical expertise, commitment, and braveness to work with pioneering technologies. For instance, Kotlin Multiplatform, which allows us to develop fully native SDKs for several platforms without an excessive cost in time or complexity.
How was your onboarding process?
This process was fantastic. I felt very welcomed by my teammates, and they helped me with everything. I was able to dedicate my first days to have an approach from the external point of view since our team distributes software for other developers. Thus being able to identify weaknesses and possible improvements in which ones I started working right after.
What are the biggest challenges in starting to work remotely? Did change something in your lifestyle?
I was already used to working remotely partially or totally in the past so it hasn't been a big change. It is very important to know and establish good relationships with all your colleagues. I am convinced that a good remote working culture is possible and that a great work-life balance can be achieved through that.
How is your daily routine?
My routine begins in the morning with a great coffee with a "Pastel de Nata" on the terrace while I watch the fog going away and the sunrise coming in Sintra, one of the most magical areas of the Lisbon district. Normally I already have planned what I am going to do during the morning until the daily meeting (10:30 am), but I always try to give priority to new emails, tickets, or chats that may have happened with my colleagues or customers. After aligning with my colleagues in the daily meeting, I continue with my tasks or meetings that I could have. I always try to book a time of the day to read an article, check if there is any interesting news, and share it with my colleagues. Outside of work hours and my hundreds of digital pet projects, I try to diversify my time going for a walk in the nature, cooking, painting anything, or doing DIY projects.
How do you keep in contact with your team?
We are in contact in many ways from chat, video calls, to my dear Jira. Always trying to be natural and empathize with each other. Usercentrics is a family that is growing very fast and our work culture is maturing and defining itself according to the context and our needs. For example, lately, we are promoting the use of cameras in calls as a way to get closer to each other.
What is the biggest advantage of starting to work remotely at a company?
The onboarding process is much faster and is more optimized for both the company, the team, and the new member. It is usually much more relaxed since you are integrating into a new place from your comfort zone (your home).
